Color Blindness

At Optimal Eye Care, we understand the frustration and pain that comes with color blindness, and we're here to help. Our experienced optometrists specialize in diagnosing and treating color blindness using the latest technology and personalized treatment plans.

What is Color blindness?

Color blindness is a condition where a person has difficulty distinguishing between certain colors or cannot see them at all. This is typically caused by an inherited genetic mutation that affects the way the eyes perceive colors.

Color blindness can range in severity, from mild difficulty distinguishing certain colors to the inability to see any colors at all. It is more common in men than women and affects about 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women of Northern European descent.

In addition to the frustration and confusion caused by color blindness, some individuals may also experience discomfort, headaches, or eye strain from trying to discern colors. At Optimal Eye Care, we offer comprehensive color vision testing to diagnose the type and severity of color blindness. Depending on the results, we can create a personalized treatment plan to help you or your loved one navigate color-based tasks and alleviate any discomfort or pain associated with the condition.

There are three types of color blindness:

  • Deuteranopia (difficulty distinguishing between green and red)

  • Protanopia (difficulty distinguishing between red and green)

  • Tritanopia (difficulty distinguishing between blue and yellow)
